Blogging through the Season!

It is hard to believe but it is the Christmas season again. The elections are over and it is time to rejoice in our friends and relatives.

Maybe it’s me, but things just seem to be speeding up. I find that I don’t have the time to pay attention to the season like I have in past years. For that matter, there just isn’t enough time to do all the things I’d like to do. Gee, I guess that’s the first thing I’ll wish for this year………slow down time a little.

I had a birthday not long ago and I was having a bit of a pity party until I thought about how fortunate I have been to be born in America. I have a beautiful family, a nice home and access to some of the best healthcare in the world. This is truly the land of opportunity. If you are willing to work hard, many good things can come your way. I wish… that everyone understood that.

I also understand not everyone has the same opportunities. Barriers hold us all up once in a while. Whether it is a temporary setback or maybe illness or disability, we should step up and help those who have a need not just at Christmas but all through the year. I volunteer with a great organization in my community called ACCESS. We help with food and shelter needs and the demand keeps growing. There are many opportunities for community service everywhere. I wish… everyone everywhere to give a little time and volunteer for a good cause in their community.

Sometimes we take for granted things that happen automatically in our lives…like the weather. We can’t change what’s going to happen, if it is going to be hot, we deal with it in one form or another. If it is going to be cold, we dress in layers and… “button up that coat!” I remember Mom always saying that before I went outside. In Southern Oregon and Northern California it has been very dry for a while. Our ski resort didn’t even open last year. Agriculture is an important part of our community. I wish… it would snow up in the mountains and bring us a good snow pack this winter.

As we all enjoy this holiday season, I wish… you and yours a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
